Demystifying the Comms Plan

When I first started in Communications, I didn’t have a degree and had never created a Communications plan before… but I knew I needed one for the nonprofit where I was working. I was their first Communications Director, and I just like to have a plan.

So I did a search. And more searches. And eventually, I found a starting point I felt I could use as a springboard. A decade later and after writing at least six Communications plans, usually at least 20 pages in length, here’s the template that works for me. It’s been great in small and large nonprofits, institutes, and to share as an open source document.

When I opened the Google Doc today to grab the link, I saw two other people in there, and it warmed my heart to know it’s being used! I hope you can make it your own.
